Polino is located on the slopes of Mount La Pelosa, nestled among forests and natural landscapes of the most beautiful of Umbria.
The town owes its name to the family Polino, first lords of the place, which then came under the domain of the family of Arrone and then under the noble family of Castelli from Terni. The city was protected by a double ring of walls, with the innermost that protected the top, oldest part, destined to aristocratic houses and the church. Of the medieval walls remain among other port and a tower.
Polino offers the possibility of interesting walks: You can visit the neighboring Sibillini, Lake Piediluco, Loenessa. Near the city are cross-country skiing and downhill. Among the events is the Summer Polinense, the third Sunday in August, and the Feast of the Chestnut in the last week of October. Polino area is rich in fossils, rocks belonging to the period from the Triassic; in the past the village was famous for marble quarries and deposits of iron, and a gold mine, currently being restructuring to be open to the public.
