In the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries the history of the town of Poggiodomo are closely linked to those of the municipalities of Spoleto, Cascia, where he found alternately engaged in historical-political events of both, first under the mayor of Spoleto and in the struggles between Guelphs and Ghibellines in the town of Cascia. In 1361 the territory of Poggiodomo excluding Usigni, no longer a part of the municipality of Spoleto, and the fraction of Usigni was often contention between the towns of Cascia, Norcia and Spoleto. Cascia in 1377 managed to extend its dominance over Usigni and a few years later on the whole of Poggiodomo, a proof of this, is the fact that these territories were elected mayors and guardians who responded for their actions to the Podestà of Cascia. With the sack of Rome (1527) many castles of Cascia, including Poggiodomo, Usigni, Roccatamburo and Mucciafora, sought protection in Spoleto and then declared autonomous. The statute of Poggiodomo was read and approved the church of San Salvatore on 1 September 1529, where he still recognized the authority of Spoleto.
