Foligno, town in the province of Perugia is the third city of the Umbria region, the village is situated on the river valleys Topino, originally known as Timea, and boasts very ancient origins, the city appears to be built by the Umbrian, population who settled in the territory even before the Romans.
Subsequently, the domain of the city was taken by Rome, and became first a prefecture, and then a City Hall during the medieval period Foligno was under the control of the family of the Trinci, who exercised a strong policy of expansion, during the following centuries the city sided on the side of the Ghibellines, the decision that led, some years later to clash violently with the Guelph Perugia.

The visit to the city is of particular interest, we can observe the beautiful cathedral, which was built in XII century in Romanesque style, and in which there are some important frescoes, the Palazzo Pretorio, Palazzo Trinci, ancient residence of the family that dominated the city, the Palazzo Comunale and the Palazzo finally Orfini.
Among the religious buildings that rise in the Umbrian town remember the Church of St. Catherine, built in 1200, the Church of Santa Maria in Campis, important because it was built in one of the four cardinal points of Foligno, the Church of St. Nicholas, which houses an important painting of the Coronation of the Virgin, and finally the old Collegiate Church of San Salvatore, built between the eleventh and twelfth centuries.
Of particular interest is the festival that takes place in the city every year in June: La Giostra della Quintana, a sweepstakes prize, a competition that sees confronting the 10 districts of Foligno.
